Today I helped a lot with preparing documents for a court date. I also made a lot of appointments that Alysson needed. I then created the flyers for the "Your Money Your Goal" event that will take place in July. Today I listened to a lot of the communication in the office and I think a very important lesson that I continue to learn is how knowledge is power along with how important communication is to complete an overall goal. Good communication is something I want to continue to try and expand on skill wise. I see how valuable it is in the work space and overall and I think it is a skill that I really need to work on. My experience this week was amazing. Even though I may not be interested in being a lawyer for a profession I still learned a lot of valuable skills.

Today Alysson had meetings all day, so I helped other people out in the office. Mostly an attorney named Mika. She had stacks and stacks of papers that needed to be organized whole punched and filed. I spent almost four hours doing this and to be honest it was pretty horrible. After I was done filing I sat in a meeting with Alysson and some of her clients so I could run papers back and forth. I made a lot of cops as well as delivered different papers to people. Today wasn't the forest exciting day, but I learned how to write professional thank you letters to people and file better so even though it wasn't the most interesting I was still able to learn different skills.
My second day of job shadowing I filled out rein reimbursement papers for filing fees, I also had to look for numerous case files in Kemps (a computer program that holds all of the clients information) Today I think I developed the skill of using kemps a lot better. I was pretty proud of myself, because it is a pretty hard program to use and Alysson had a meeting which met she was unable to help me through it. This ended up being really beneficial considering I used my resources and was able to figure out how to do it all on my own.
Yesterday was my first day job shadowing Alysson Snow the head consumer attorney at Legal Aid Society. Legal Aid is a non profit organization that helps low income families receive the legal help they need. It was pretty nerve wrecking at first because I didn't know if I was going to do a good job, but once I started actually working I realized its not all that different from the High Tech setting. The first thing I did was help make copies of all files, then I went to a training that taught me how to use their programs such as KEMPS. After this I sat in a meeting with Alyson and her team to take notes on how their program will be changing I will later put these notes in a powerpoint. After the meeting I scheduled appointments, filed, and help come up with details for an even called "Your Money Your Goals" that Alysson is putting me in charge of helping her plan. My first day was pretty exciting I felt really accomplished and was able to better understand what a work environment looks like. I observed Alysson throughout the day and I noticed how much collaboration she does through her job. Collaboration is not my strongest suite, so for the next couple of days I want to make it a goal to become better in this area. I think that I have definitely become more confident in my ability to work in a professional setting as well as going confidence in my abilities to get tasks done. |
